With funds from the John H. & Bethel B. Dearborn Trust, the Darling Marine Center is now able to provide facility support including housing, SCUBA support, and skiff rentals for Capstone Research projects. Additional support may be available for disposables and other lab supplies. Facility support can be used throughout the year for overnight sampling trips, weekly/monthly visits to monitor experiments, or a 2-week intensive project.

Approved Capstone projects will be listed on the Capstone page as they become available and interested students should contact the faculty advisor directly. Students with independent project ideas are encouraged to contact their Capstone advisors to discuss projects that can be conducted at the DMC. Capstone advisors can request project support by completing this application form. Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis, but you are urged to act early as funds are limited.

UMaine undergraduates working on their Capstone projects at the DMC must have completed SMS 404 and be enrolled in SMS 400 during their residency at the DMC. Capstone advisors need not be in residence with the students, but must carefully monitor progress to ensure research objectives are met in the time allotted. If advisors are not in residence, students must have specific research goals for their time at the DMC.
